Pre-Wedding Tips and Tricks

With so much to plan for on your big day, many couples forget about these small, important, but often overlooked items.  Take a look below at our list of easy wedding tips and tricks!

Designated Texter/ Buffer

Have someone who you trust who will be answering any phone calls and texts the day of the
wedding. You’re going to be too busy to answer phone calls, and it will be so much easier for just one person to relay any important information to you, and handle phone calls/text from family members and friends.

Hair & Make Up Trials

Having a hair and make up trial to see how you’ll be looking the day of the actual event is super important. Taking pictures from multiple angles gives yourself a chance to make any changes, giving you the exact look you want, and also making sure your cosmetic team can perfect this look for your wedding day.

Try on Your Dress Before the Wedding

On average, a bride usually purchases her wedding dress 8 months before the wedding, which gives a lot of time for changes to happen. Trying on your dress a few times during that time span specifically the day before can help ensure your dress fits comfortably.  At you alteration appointments, try walking, sitting, and even dancing in your dress.  Try on the dress again 1 week before the wedding, especially if you’re going through any pre-wedding diets.  If you notice any changes in the fit before the wedding, contact your alteration specialist ASAP!

Break in the Wedding Heels

We recommend breaking in your wedding heels especially if you aren’t accustomed to wearing heels in general. You can discover the exact points of where any discomfort may be coming from.

Here are a few options.

  • Wear your shoes at home for about 30 minutes about three weeks before the wedding,
also gradually increasing the amount of time until you’re able to wear your heels for several hours.
  • Try wearing thick socks while wearing your heels.
  • If you notice any irritation coming from the straps, try using Vaseline or deodorant for lubrication.
  • Warming up your heels with a blow dryer or setting them next to a heater can help expand the fabric to allow your shoes to move comfortably.

3 Pairs of Shoes For Your Wedding Day

  • Getting Ready: While you’re getting ready, slippers or sandals are a perfect choice to wear and probably the most comfortable footwear.
  • Wedding Heels: Most brides choose to wear fancy heels or wedges for the ceremony & photos.  These are usually the glam shoes that make an appearance in your wedding photos.
  • Post-Wedding Shoes: Now these potentially can be the shoes you wear for most of the night depending on how comfortable you really want to be. Switching immediately into these shoes for the reception or just waiting until the dancing portion. Which ever it may be, choose these wisely and make sure they’re comfortable!

A Gathering Before the Wedding Day

You’re bringing together a lot of people from different places for a very important day. To ensure everything runs smoothly and to “break the ice” before the actual wedding, this will help give everyone a chance to get to know each other in a more relaxed environment. Especially for the bride & groom, the day of the wedding may not be the best time for you to put in quality time with anyone or catch up with friends and relatives who you may not see often. Luckily you have plenty of opportunities to gather with everyone! Engagement parties, bridesmaid’s luncheons, wedding showers, bachelorette/bachelor parties, and last but not least the rehearsal dinner.

Make Sure the Photographer Knows What Photos You Want

A complete list of photo moments that you would like your photographer to capture is a must. Also something to add on that list is specific groups of people you want pictures with in case you may forget, at least your photographer can give you a reminder. For example, pictures with relatives from out of the country that you haven’t seen in 15 years.

Pro-Tip: Have one or two family members on hand who can help gather any family who you’d like for photos.  Since your vendors don’t know who is who, it’s helpful to have someone who is familiar with your family!

Get Your Ring Cleaned!

The main symbol of your marriage, everyone is probably itching to see the ring you have on your finger. Having it professionally cleaned is definitely a good idea. And your jeweler will most likely clean it for free!

Put a Little Lotion on Before Walking Down the Aisle

Just be sure this little part of the ceremony goes smoothly, putting a little lotion on right before you walk down the aisle will definitely help that ring slip right on and not only will you have soft hands for when your new husband puts it on but they will look good in photos too.

Hold You Bouquet Low

This may feel a little weird, but it looks so much better in photos.  Many brides and bridesmaids start to hold their bouquet too high, which can hide the detailing on the bodice of the dress. Hold your bouquet low so you can show off your dress!

Make a Wedding Checklist

Stay organized by including a list of items that you’ll need on the wedding day. Many couples include important things, as well as small items that are easy to forget.  Planning ahead of time, and packing these items early ensure that you won’t forget anything the day-of the wedding.

Most couples include:

  • Wedding Rings
  • Vows
  • Chapstick/Lipstick
  • Jewelry
  • Deodorant
  • Lint Rollers
  • Veil
  • Change of Shoes
  • Bridal Emergency Supply Kit
  • Marriage License
  • Hangers (for cute dress photos)
