Trendy Cakes for a Unique Reception

From opulent ruffles to decadent metallics, a wedding cake plays an essential role in any wedding tradition. As a symbolic treat, the cake encompasses purity within a grand display of sweetness and beauty. With so many details and styles to consider, the possibilities of creating the perfect towering confection are endless. Here are some of the most gorgeous and trendy wedding cake themes that are sure to make a sweet statement!

Naked Cakes

More and more brides are opting for tiered cakes with a minimalistic, woodland aesthetic. Barely there icing that exposes just the right amount of cake helps to evoke a rustic elegance. After all, this cake is the confection version of “it’s what’s inside that matters.” If gum paste bows and buttercream florets aren’t your style, then a naked cake laced with fresh flowers and berries may just be the one.

Buttercream Ruffles

For a simple, yet ethereal theme, opt for the elegant flair of buttercream ruffles. The subtleness of the white frills adds a soft, airy touch to any theme. From glamour to country, frills are a go-to style for any wedding reception, and the practicality of this cake design allows plenty of room for fresh flowers, metallic finishes, pearls, or candied fruit.

Watercolor Cakes

Reminiscent of the ever so trendy watercolor invites, vibrant, hand-painted wedding cakes bring tasty and beautiful to a whole new level. These marbleized and lively works of art are perfect for the expressive brides who want to bring class and fun to the tablescape. Focus the attention on intricate hand-painted details by keeping the shape of the cake tiers consistent and finishing the towers off with simple flowers.

Metallic Finishes

Nothing speaks timeless glamour and opulence much like metallic finishes. A gold or silver look pairs beautifully with almost any theme and color palette. From Hollywood glam to modern luxury, a wedding cake laced with gold can be adapted to any theme by incorporating different textures, such as lace print or geometric shapes. If you want a subtle shine without a metallic overdose, opt for dashes of gold foil on a colorful and sporadic wedding cake.

White on White

Like the dress, white wedding cakes have always been a timeless staple in any reception. While conventional, a plain and pure wedding cake is anything but boring, especially if you top it off with modern accents in white! The new way of styling snowy tiers is to add white embellishments such as gum-paste flowers, pearls, ribbons, and petals.

"We loved our wedding at Elliston! Our event coordinator Madeline was AMAZING. On the day of the wedding food was actually better than our menu tasting!! The staff was amazing and made sure everyone taking portraits after the wedding got a chance to try the hors d'oeuvres. So the venue is beautiful, the staff were very responsive, polite and easy to work with, food was great, and to top it off it was one of the most affordable bay area wedding venues. I want to make a shout out to Madeline who was beyond amazing on the day of. If anything went wrong, I didn't hear about it. She was always easy to get a hold of and on the day of placed all my decor perfectly. I even left placement of some stuff up to her and it turned out great! I can't recommend Madeline and Elliston enough." - Pam & Ian - June 24, 2017
